Xavier Ginesta invites 6 teenagers to participate in the conference of the Third World Free Press Conference What do the young readers seek for?
Xavier Ginesta invites 6 teenagers to participate in the conference of the Third World Free Press Conference "What do the young readers seek for?"
The Third World Free Press Conference has invited six students from Catalan high schools to participate in the conference by Xavier Ginesta that is based on the work of students from several universities in Europe toward the free press in their area: how does it appear, why do they read it and what do they expect from it. The works are performed by students of the University of Bonn, University of Kalmar, University Ramon Llull, Universitad of Seville. The goal of having six high school students is to be able to present the participants with a different view of those college students: the views of adolescents, future readers of free newspapers.
How the young readers face the free and digital media. What do they read? Why? What contents do they find best done? Do they consider it as a replacement for the press of payment ... These are some of the questions that will try to be responded in the presentation of the results of several working groups made up of young students from various universities and high schools in Europe. These are some of the questions that will try to be responded with the experiences of the results of the working groups that Ginesta will present.
The artist Quim Tarrida has created the piece that will serve as an award for the Third World Free Press Conference
The artist Quim Tarrida has created the piece that will serve as an award for the Third World Free Press Conference
The artist Quim Tarrida (Barcelona, 1967) has shaped the piece that will be given as a gift to the lecturers of the Third World Free Press Conference (Barcelona, 19th, 20th and 21st of November 2008). Quim Tarrida is a renowned multi-creator who uses from the usual formats of the showrooms (photography, drawing, painting, sculpture, installation) to others with temporal and ephemeral nature such as performance, music or sound piece. He was the artist responsible for designing the award for the National Awards for Culture 2007 that materialized in a piece entitled “Columbus”.
The piece that Quim Tarrida has designed as an award for the Third World Free Press Conference is made with basic materials: wood and paper. Its structure symbolizes the cycle that takes place in the development of the newspapers (from their edition and distribution to their destruction and subsequent recycling). Its base is made of wood, teak; icon for the origin of the paper. It holds a fold of newspaper; it brings the weight of the edition’s world of the press dyed with a note of Tarrida’s color (the artist always incorporates the blue color on his artistic language: the Mediterranean environment, the blue of the sky and sea, the height and the depth). The head of the piece is of the same wood as the base. It represents the return to the beginning, the wood as a primary element of the paper… Be rebirth through recycling.
The piece, whose edition is numbered and signed by the author, like the rest of Quim Tarrida’s artistic production, offers an enthusiastic relationship with the spectator through the touch of pile of guillotined newspapers.
